Q: What do I need to
know about choosing a studio?
A:
In order to select a studio, you should decide
whether you are interested in social dancing or competitions and testing. Beginner
Couples Group programs or Private lessons at AIM will help you to achieve the
goal of being a confident social dancer. If you are interested in medal tests
and competitions, there are many studios who will gladly train you to compete.
At Art In Motion, you will never be pressured into an expensive
dance competition or medal testing package.
Fees are another factor.
Here, you'll find the tuition disclosed "up front" , and it's the same for
everyone - no bargaining or haggling. Places which advertise a "free" first
lesson or inexpensive starter package can "up" the fees once they've got you
hooked. It's worth finding out your options before making a choice.
If possible, find out if
you can talk to some current students. Find out how the instructors teach, and
whether they make dancing FUN!

Q: I need to lose a few pounds. Do
I need to be in shape to begin ?
A:
Ballroom dancing is a physical activity that can be
adjusted to almost ANY level of fitness; whether you are interested in losing a
few pounds, or having a great cardio workout, your program can be tailored to
your exact needs and fitness level.

Q: Do I need a partner?
A:
There are two options available if you would like to
come in without a partner. In Private lessons you will dance with your
instructor, so a partner is not required. You will gain confidence for
social events - imagine feeling great about asking someone to dance, or being
asked yourself! Also, ladies do not need a
partner for the Ladies Latin Fitness Class.

Q:
Should
I try Ballroom or Latin? International or American style?
A:
In order to learn social
dancing, both Ballroom and Latin are recommended; you may lean towards one style or another as you get a
feel for the dances. Beginner Group lessons allow you to learn the basics of
both styles and will allow you to dance to many different and varied styles of
music.
We prefer the American style
which allows us to focus on having fun. With the Art In Motion teaching method,
we focus on steps and techniques that will get you on the dance floor right
away.

Q: Which program should I
enroll in -- Group Lessons or Private lessons?
A:
If you have never
taken dance classes before, the best place to begin is with a Group lesson -
that way you can try various types of dances,
with people who are in the same position as you.
If you have had
some dance experience, perhaps Private Lessons would be best. With Private
lessons, you can hone in on specific dances of your
choice, as well as explore more in depth technique and style.
Scheduling also
plays a factor in deciding which program to choose. Private lessons allow you to
have more flexibility in your
scheduling, so if you work different shifts or plan to take vacations, you can
pick up again right where you left off.
With our Club
Memberships, you get the benefit of both Private and Group lessons. We recommend trying your Private lessons one - at - time before
deciding which Membership would best suit your needs.

Q: Do I need to
purchase shoes before I start?
A:
Short answer -- no you
do not need special shoes to begin. Ballroom Dance dance shoes are
recommended once
a student has decided they would like to pursue dancing as a regular activity.
At that point, you will be able to select from many different styles through Supadance.

Q: What should I wear to
my first class?
A:
The best answer is,
something comfortable! Clothing should allow for movement, and be light and
able to breathe. Tank tops and
muscle shirts are usually not a good idea due to the "up close" nature of
couples dancing.
Dress shoes are
best for both ladies and gentlemen, something with a sole that is neither too
sticky, nor to slippery. For the Ladies
Latin Class, workout wear is recommended for Beginners.
